Attendance
At Hythe Bay, attendance matters. We want our children to be in school every day - this is the best way to ensure they get the most out of every educational experience we offer. Our attendance target is 100%.
As a parent, you are legally responsible for making sure your child gets a full-time education. Children must get an education from the school term after their 5th birthday until the last Friday in June in the school year they turn 16.
For most parents, this means making sure your child is in school every day, except when:
- they are too ill to go to school
- there are exceptional circumstances and the headteacher has given permission
- your religious body has a day especially for religious observance.
What you can do
If your child is sick, please:
- Telephone before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
- Tell the school in advance of any medical appointments.
- If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them. If we think they are poorly we will send them home.
- If your child is having problems that are affecting their attendance, then please come and talk to us!
What we will do
- Check your child’s attendance every day.
- Reward attendance with Dojo points.
- Speak to you if we are concerned, either in writing or by phone.
Absence
Please telephone if your child is unwell so that we know your child is safe at home or email us. The school will make contact with parents if your child is absent without prior notification.
If your child has to attend a medical or dental appointment during the school day, please collect an authorisation slip from the school office in advance.
