Our Educational Beach Clean Wheelie Bin has now arrived and is situated outside the school entrance.

We are all Ocean Guardians!

At Hythe Bay we are proud to announce that on January 26th 2018 we were awarded Ocean Guardian status!

 

This is a scheme run by the charity Surfers Against Sewage, SAS, who are based in Cornwall.

 

The biggest form of sewage on our beaches is plastic.  Such pollution is totally avoidable and as a school we are committed to making a difference to our local environment.

 

We had to submit a detailed proposal as to how we can actively help the cause, how we can stand up and fight the tide of plastic pollution!

The proposal was accepted and we are now officially only  1 of 25 schools to be awarded Ocean Guardian status in the whole of the UK!

This includes primary and secondary schools….. literally thousands of schools!

 

Our passion at Hythe Bay is to make a difference to the learning lives of our children.

Ocean Guardians is another great opportunity where children can learn outside of the constraints that a regular classroom may bring.  It is a superb extension to the wealth of opportunities that are already offered to our children, many of whom are vulnerable and relish and thrive when presented with chances for new life / learning experience.

 

By offering children another way to learn, another opportunity, we are not only looking after our beaches but also our children’s wellbeing.  This idea of environment and wellbeing being linked is a hugely ‘cool’ idea!  Such a link can be nurtured, cascading into greater self -awareness through discussion groups and talk partner work.
